University CV
All campus level evaluations require faculty CVs to be submitted in the recognized University CV format. The University formatted CV must be used by candidates undergoing a promotion and tenure review. Candidates may modify the CV to accommodate annotations regarding items contained within the CV (e.g., identifying student authors, indicating order of authorship) and removing irrelevant CV items (e.g., types of publications, types of activities).
To date, when faculty needed to create a CV in the University CV format, they would navigate to the University CV Template page on the Office of Faculty Affairs website, download a Microsoft Word template, and manually update the template with their content. Alternatively, faculty would use the University CV report in Faculty Success to generate a CV in the university format, drawing on their existing activities in the Faculty Success system. Many faculty members identified challenges using the Word version of the University CV template from the Office of Faculty Affairs website. In particular, users sent questions about formatting and where certain activities should appear.
The Office of Faculty Affairs, in collaboration with an ad hoc committee of faculty and college administrative staff, identfied issue with original template and developed solutions. This effort in the Summer of 2024 led to the creation of a new University CV Template. The new format for the University CV was made available in October, 2024. This updated University CV Template will be the default CV format for promotion processes in the 2025-2026 academic year and going forward. In the 2024-2025 academic year, for any processes requiring a CV to be in the University format, either version (the updated and the traditional one) is permitted.
For best results:
- Prepare your CV in the University format using the preconfigured report available in Faculty Success (the 'University CV' report). Faculty Success can easily generate a CV in PDF or Word format. From the Word output, users can further refine and finalize their CV.
- The University CV Template (PDF) is the full University CV template. It is useful for the review of the structure and format, but not as a template from which to populate with your CV content. Faculty are not advised to use the PDF, or a variant in a different format, to manually create their CV in the university format. Instead, they should generate their CV using Faculty Success.
An annotated copy of the University CV template is now available. It provides explanation and guidance for use of the template's various sections, and it includes sample citations for each section of the CV.
