Teaching Policy

In 2021, the University of Maryland created the FAMILE (Faculty Advancement at Maryland for Inclusive Learning and Excellence) program, a diversity initiative aimed at recruiting outstanding tenured or tenure-track faculty members. As part of the FAMILE initiative, and through the President's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, the University seeks to facilitate the hiring of postdoctoral scholars into tenure track faculty positions at the University. During the term of appointment, the Fellow will be expected to focus primarily on research, however, the expectation is that the Fellow will teach at least one semester-long course during their two-year Fellowship in order to assist in their development and preparation for a tenure track faculty position.
