Teaching Policy

During the term of appointment, the Fellow will be expected to focus primarily on research, however, the expectation is that the Fellow will teach at least one semester-long course during their two-year Fellowship in order to assist in their development and preparation for a tenure track faculty position.

Critical Dates

Phase 1: Application

August 15: On-line Application Opens
October 15: On-line Application Closes (for Applicants)
October 29: Recommendation Letters Due

Recommendations include:

two references, of which one should be from thesis / dissertation advisor;
the UMD faculty mentor;
up to one additional UMD faculty member (optional)

Phase 2: Department/ College Review Process

November 1: Access to applicant files open
November 11: Letters of support from unit head due upon request from the PPFP Administrator
December 15: Recommendations from Deans (departmentalized colleges) submitted to the PPFP Administrator

Phase 3: University Review Process

February 1 through February 28: Early Decisions
March 1 through March 15: Regular Decision Window
