Tenured Appointments at Another Institution

The University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) does not permit a faculty member to hold tenure at more than one institution. Just as it is expected that an individual holding a tenured position at another institution will resign that position when accepting one at UMD, so it is expected that an individual will resign a UMD tenured position when accepting one elsewhere. A letter of resignation from the UMD appointment, with an effective last date of employment, must be submitted to the faculty member’s unit head within thirty days of accepting a tenured appointment at another institution. Should a faculty member who has accepted a tenured position at another institution not resign their position within 30 days, UMD will terminate their tenured faculty appointment.
