Faculty Success Updates September 2025

Faculty Success

A number of changes have been made since the Spring term in Faculty Success -- all of the changes improve the generated University CV report. These changes are summarized below. Full details on the changes are available on the Faculty Success website.

And remember: the system is always available for you to add new activities or update information, regardless of the official window to submit annual reporting. Keep your activity data up to date by adding and updating in Faculty Success as you go.

Enhancements to the University CV Report

Exclude unwanted appointments: There may be specific appointments in your Workday data that you do not want included in your University CV. You can mark these appointment records for exclusion from the University CV on the Appointments at UMD (Imported Data) activity screen.

Add official pre-2001 appointments: UMD appointments prior to the 2001 launch of the PHR system are not automatically added to Faculty Success. If they are needed in the CV, faculty can add them manually using the Other Appointments activity screen. Note: this should not be used with affiliate appointments.

Report option for numbering publications and presentations: Within each sub-section that pertains to publications as well as presentations, it is now possible to set a report option for numbering the entries. Options available are to keep the entries within the sub-section unnumbered (entries are presented in reverse chronological order); numbered in reverse chronological order; or numbered in chronological order. This option is set on the report generation page, just below the date fields. The default value is Unnumbered. The same numbering scheme is applied throughout the generated CV for sections that involve Publications, Presentations or Professional and Extension Publication entries.

Total Anticipated Amount included with Awards: Beginning in late 2024, the Office of Research Administration (ORA) started including Total Anticipated Dollars in the Kuali Research data integrated with Faculty Success. This value is included in the Awards entries in the University CV, along with the percent faculty share. Award data from before 2024 can be manually updated with the Total Anticipated Dollars.

Courses taught at other institutions: Faculty can now document courses they taught at other institutions prior to joining the University of Maryland faculty. The University CV includes courses taught over the past five years. The new Scheduled Teaching at Other Institutions activity screen can be used to manually add the courses that were taught at other institutions.

Brief descriptions in citations: Many activity records now support two types of descriptions:

  • A brief description, suitable for concise inclusion in the University CV.
  • An expanded description, used in other reports such as annual activity reviews.

This allows for greater flexibility in tailoring the content of your CV while maintaining richer detail for other reporting needs. The brief description is included in the University CV. The one exception is the Professional and Extension Education activity screen, where, for entries of type 'Major Extension Program,' the major extension program description is included in the University CV and all other full-service Faculty Success reports.
