Provost Dialogue: Use of AI in the Promotion Process

Dec 3, 12:00 pm
- 1:00 pm
Virtual

As the University moves forward with revisions to its Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure policy (“APT Policy”), Provost Rice is re-launching the Provost Dialogue series (“Dialogues”) to inform the revisions to the APT Policy specifically, as well as promotion reviews more broadly (e.g., Librarian, PTK). As we seek to align our incentives and rewards structures with the University's values and strategic plan (Fearlessly Forward), the Provost and the Office of Faculty Affairs (“OFA”) anticipate sharing potential revisions to the APT Policy with the campus community in Spring 2026, followed by a series of Dialogues to gather feedback prior to transmitting the draft to the University Senate for its review through our shared governance process.

On December 3, 2025, please join Provost Rice for a Dialogue on using Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) in the promotion review process. One pillar of the University’s strategic plan is “We take on humanity’s grand challenges,” which establishes a collaborative AI hub that supports faculty research, promotes experiential learning, and the ethical use of AI. As we prepare to review the University’s APT Policy, and consider the broader implications for promotion reviews across faculty types, we have a unique opportunity to consider how AI tools and their use intersect with the promotion and evaluative processes.

Colleagues from the Center for Leadership & Organizational Change (“CLOC”) and OFA will facilitate breakout room discussions and collect and analyze data from the session. Participation with video on is highly recommended.
