Faculty Forum: Don't Cross the Streams — Keeping your Professional and Personal Digital Information Separate
This forum will focus on the importance of maintaining separate professional and personal digital accounts. The forum speaker, Jeffrey K. Hollingsworth (Vice President and Chief Information Officer), will address common practices in which personal and professional accounts are co-mingled and explain how individuals can untangle their digital lives in a relatively straightforward and manageable way. Drawing on lessons from his own experience as a faculty member who used a University of Maryland email account for both personal and professional purposes for approximately 25 years, he will reflect on the long-term implications of these choices.
The session will also cover planning for one’s digital legacy, including steps to ensure that digital assets can be accessed by a designated individual in the event of incapacity. In addition, the presentation will offer practical guidance for those responsible for managing the digital affairs of a parent or other family member who has passed away.
