Media Library Basics

Item Tagged With:

The Media Library is a separate content type that allows us to use and reuse all kinds of media, though we primarily use it for images and documents.

Advantages

Using the media library means we will not have multiple copies of a document or an image on the site. If there are multiple copies of a document, it can be difficult to manage the process of finding and correcting each one. Also, web searches and site searches might turn up an out of date copy of the document. Multiple copies of an image slow down the site's load time, and offer the same challenges if there is a reason to change the image.

Disadvantages

Using the media library can add an extra step to the process of including a graphic or document in your content. However, most of the content types we use have been set up to ask for a media library item, rather than the old school file or image upload.
